The formation of a national unity government doesn’t mean Hamas will take part in peace negotiations or recognize Israel, senior Hamas member and an official of Hamas delegation to the Cairo talks Mahmoud Zahar clarified on Wednesday. Earlier, after a series of covert talks in Damascus and Cairo during the last few weeks, Fatah and Hamas announced they reached an agreement to establish a national unity government, and organize election in one year’s time. The deal, which was hailed as “historic” by both sides, was brokered by Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and General Intelligence Force. Commenting on the deal, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has said that the PA should select between peace with Hamas and Israel because “peace with both is impossible.”
