Thousands of Syrians joined anti-government demonstrations on Friday demanding an end to President Assad’s regime, activists and witnesses said. There were several marches and demonstrations planned for Friday for what is being described by activists as a “Day of Defiance”. Over 550 civilians and 100 troops have died since the anti-regime revolt, inspired by uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, started in March, human rights groups reported.
