Taliban militants launched a coordinated attack on Tueday targetting various key sites in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Gunmen armed with suicide vests and weapons attacked NATO headquarters, the US embassy and the Afghan intelligence agency. Three policemen and four civilians were killed as Afghan forces battled armed fighters. NATO forces provided air and ground support in the operation.

Several other areas outside the city also witnessed attacks. A suicide bomber detonated himself outside a police station west of Kabul, killing one police officer. Another attacker blew himself up outside Habibia high school, west of the city.

The coordinated attacks come as NATO plans to hand over the security responsibility to Afghan forces.
