British Foreign Secretary William Hague met his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Saud al-Faisal in Jeddah on Wednesday to discuss hotspots in the Middle East and North Africa including Syria and Libya. “At a time of great upheaval and change in the region, our constructive cooperation on regional issues including Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Iran, and the Middle East peace process, is even more critical,” Hague said during a joint press conference with Prince Saud. He also stressed the need for resolving the long-standing Arab-Israeli conflict, saying, “Prince Saud and I agree, I think, that the unfolding events in the region show the need for meaningful negotiation.”
