Context
Almost a month into the military campaign in Libya, the move is creating problems back home for the countries involved, particularly France where President Nicolas Sarkozy is facing public distrust. Even France’s intrusion in its former colony, Ivory Coast, couldn’t save the president from allegations of being imperialistic. Sarkozy is now undoubtedly the most hated president in the country’s history, according to a new opinion poll conducted over the weekend. The major beneficiary of the military interventions in Libya and Ivory Coast has been National Front Party leader Marine Le Pen, who is expected to knock Sarkozy out in the presidential elections next year.
