Russia has said the growing tensions between Iran and the West would reduce chances of Tehran cooperating regarding its nuclear program. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Alexander Lukashevich said his country spoke out “categorically against cranking up a spiral of tension and confrontation on issues linked with Iran. We believe that this … is fraught with severe consequences.” He warned that the west was considering “completely unacceptable threats of the use of force against Iran.”
Russia has however condemned the attack on the British embassy in Tehran. EU officials have also expressed their dismay at the incident with Italy calling back its ambassador for consultation. German officials have launched an inquiry into reports Iran was planning to attack American targets in Germany. The German police are currently investigating a German businessman thought to be a “foreign agent with the intention of sabotage.”
