After cuts in support from the United States, Pakistan is looking towards Saudi Arabia and the UAE for assistance for development projects and repatriation of internally displaced people (IDP). The government is estimated to have spent Rs 45billion to help people affected in FATA and Khyber Pakhtunwa, of which Rs 10 billion was provided by Saudi Arabia to assist refugees to return to Kurram by August 25. The partnership is a sign of improving relations between the two countries which deteriorated over strengthening Pakistan-Iran ties. According to sources, $100 million is expected to be received from Saudi Arabia and UAE as part of efforts to develop the region.
