Muammar Gaddafi’s tottering regime on Thursday called for an immediate truce in Libya, as rebel fighters claimed they had taken control of a major oil refinery in the western township of Zawiyah. Rebels have been trying to cut Tripoli’s supply lines from Gaddafi’s birthplace of Sirte to the east and Tunisia in the west in a move they believe will isolate the capital, spark defections and prompt unrest inside Tripoli. Meanwhile, Libya’s Prime Minister Baghdadi Mahmudi has rejected the claim while announcing his intentions to put an immediate end to the conflict through a dialogue. He revealed that “contact” has been made in recent days to seek a political solution.
