Context
Israel on Thursday suffered one of the worst direct assaults in years. Fighters carried out a series of coordinated attacks from across the border in Egypt, targeting commuter buses. The attack left seven persons dead and several others wounded.
Israel’s military responded last night with bombing raids against the Hamas-controlled territory of Gaza, from where the attacks were said to have been originated. Six persons were killed, whereas the UN pulled out its entire foreign staff from the territory.
The attacks are connected to the security situation of Sinai Peninsula where Al Qaeda presence is suspected. Egyptian military had launched an operation in Sinai Peninsula on Sunday with the objective of restoring peace in the area.
