Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said she wasn’t sure whether there would be a vote in the UN on recognition of an independent Palestinian state in September and that the phrasing of the resolution isn’t yet certain. “It will depend very much on what the resolution says as to how the international community in general and the EU in particular, votes,” she said in an interview in Brussels this week, before adding, “It’s quite possible that that there could be a vote at the UN where the European Union has no difficulty in voting for that.”
