US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton demanded an immediate recommencement of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks on Wednesday and criticized Palestinian attempts to seek one-sided declarations of statehood in the UN. She said that despite the turmoil in the Middle East, the Palestinians and Israel should understand the importance of resuming negotiations. As both sides examine what regional situation “means for their future positions,” said Clinton, “I would hope – and [US President Barack] Obama has said that he will continue to press both sides, which is what we believe we have to do – that everyone would realize that negotiations are the only way.”
