Chinese authorities detained Ai Weiwei, one of the most prominent artists in China, for a second consecutive day on Monday, raising concerns among his fans that he might be charged with treason or held for an indefinite period in extra-judicial detention as several other activists have been during the ongoing crackdown. Mr. Weiwei, who is known as one of the most outspoken political and social activists in China, had strongly criticized the recent crackdown and said last week he was going to set up his studio in Germany due to the difficulties he faced showcasing his work in China.
