Jordan’s King Abdullah II has expressed his reservations about the possibility of an end to Middle East conflict. In an interview on Monday, Jordan’s leader said he did not see the Israel-Palestine conflict being resolved. “I am one of the most optimistic people you’ll meet in the Middle East and for the first time I’m very pessimistic about the Israelis and Palestinians,” said King Abdullah.
The monarch also accused Israel of not being interested in working towards peace; “Israel is not really interested in a two state solution, and what is the other option?” He also suggested the United States needed to take a more active role in negotiations to prevent a power vacuum which could lead to a war in the region.
