Context
Turkey announced its decision to impose economic sanctions against Syria on Wednesday. Turkish foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the decision was made in light of Damascus’s refusal to adhere to the Arab league proposals. “We did our best to bring our relations with Syria to the highest possible level; however, Syrian authorities interpreted the events in the region incorrectly. They refused to pay attention to our warnings and reasons,” Davutoglu said.
The sanction includes a travel backlist consisting of the names of top Syrian officials, freezing of assets of President Bashar al-Assad, suspension of loan agreements with the Syrian Central bank and private banks.
The Arab League approved economic sanctions against Damascus last Sunday wile the European Union also decided to impose sanctions against the Syrian government on Monday.
