Context
Kuwait’s government said the barging by protestors inside the Parliament was “unprecedented” and unacceptable. Protestors on Wednesday entered the Parliament, injuring five policemen and Kuwait National Guard officers. Former minister of information, Saad Alajami who leads the opposition told CNN “this is a people’s opposition,” and vowed the protests would continue. Alajami also demanded for the dissolution of the parliament.
Government representative Ali Fahad Al-Rashid warned demonstrators on Thursday that the “democracy in this country should not be contaminated or misused to serve questionable agendas,” he said. “Kuwait will not be a place for pre-planned sabotage.”
The US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner urged Kuwait’s government to respect the peaceful protests.
