The United States has flown its drone aircrafts into Somalia to pursue the Islamic militant group al-Shabab. The US military has said it has begun to fly its unmanned drones from its base in Arba Minch, Ethiopia into neighboring Somalia. The drones were flown out of a million dollar airport with the aircrafts being equipped with missiles and satellite guided bombs.

The move is part of Washington’s counter terrorism policy in the region. It aims to drive out groups linked to Al Qaeda. The US government has however insisted the drones will only be used for surveillance and will not be engaging in airstrikes.
