US Exempts China But Not Pakistan From Iran Oil Sanctions

After extensive talks with both countries, United States on Thursday exempted China and Singapore from sanctions on purchases of oil from Tehran. Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen criticized the administration on letting China go free even though it is the biggest purchaser of Iranian oil. However, similar exemptions were not granted to smaller-scale importers such as Pakistan and Afghanistan and their transactions could be met with punitive actions.
