US Drone Strikes Kill 21 in S. Waziristan

US drones on Monday struck for the first time in one week, in Pakistan’s militant-controlled tribal region of South Waziristan, killing 21 fighters in two missile attacks, according to local authorities and residents. In the first attack, four missiles were fired at a vehicle in the Birmal area. Eight fighters were reportedly killed in the attack. The second attack targeted a Taliban-run camp said to be “a big compound which was used as a training center” near the village of Mantoi. Thirteen more fighters died in the second attack. The attacks were carried out in an area near the border with North Waziristan that is controlled by militants loyal to Taliban leaders Mullah Nazir and Gul Bahadur.
