The US and Afghan delegations at the trilateral Core Group’s summit on Tuesday stressed the need for Pakistan’s role in the reconciliation process with the Afghan Taliban as they believe that the country has strong influence on the insurgents and that Islamabad can help bring them to the negotiating table. US special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Marc Grossman said Wednesday that no compromise or reconciliation is attainable in Afghanistan without Pakistan’s involvement. Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Javed Ludin said the Afghan reconciliation process depends on the assistance Pakistan can offer in engaging the Taliban leaders in an attempt to bring them over to the reconciliation process.
