Following UK, France and Italy announced today that they would be sending teams of military officers to advise rebels in Libya. UK had announced yesterday that these teams would support its diplomatic mission in the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya. “These additional personnel will enable the UK to build on the work already being undertaken to support and advise the NTC (Libya’s opposition National Transitional Council) on how to better protect civilians,” said a statement from the foreign ministry. However, the military team won’t arm or train Libyan rebels in fighting forces loyal to Col. Muammar Qaddafi.
