Twelve Killed In Syrian Violence

Map of SyriaSyrian forces have been deployed in the northern port city of Latakia, where a new wave of political unrest has left at least 12 people dead. Authorities blamed foreign powers for the fighting, but local residents said that pro-government mobs started the violence. Syrian officials on Sunday said that they would lift the 48-year old emergency rule after demonstrations were staged in six key cities on Friday. Syrian President Bashar Al Assad is due to make the announcement during his address to the public on Tuesday.
