In response to a rebel attack that left a dozen troops dead in southeastern Turkey earlier in the day, Turkish jets on Wednesday targeted Kurdish guerilla positions in northern Iraq.

According to sources, the targets included rebel shelters and anti-craft defenses in the area. PKK fighters operate from these safe havens in Iraq and launch cross border attacks against Turkey. A PKK spokesperson confirmed intense bombing in the area, but denied any casualties on his side.
