Armed men attacked security forces in a restive northern Syrian city on Monday, according to state television, and 120 security officials and policemen were killed in an area where the military has been carrying out a series of assaults against demonstrators demanding an end to President Bashar Assad’s regime. However, activists told Agence-France Presse in Cyprus that the official account was false, speaking instead of a revolt in the city of Jisrash Shugur, around 12 miles from the Syrian-Turkish border. Communications to the area were cut on Monday and details of the clashes were impossible to verify.
