Suicide Attackers Target Afghan Governor; 22 Killed

Context

A group of six Taliban attackers entered the office of the governor in east Afghan province of Parwan on Sunday. The attack left 22 people dead and 40 other injured. At the time of the attack, Governor Abdul Basir Salangi was in the compound and holding a meeting with NATO foreign advisers and the province’s police chief. All the attackers involved in the incident were killed. The incident represents a concerted strategy by Taliban to go after senior Afghan politician and officials who are close ally to Karzai.
