Prince Turki al-Faisal, a senior Saudi diplomat and member of the royal family, has warned of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East if Iran develops nuclear weapons. During unpublicized talks at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire, the airbase used by NATO, al-Faisal made it clear that the presence of such weapons “would compel Saudi Arabia … to pursue policies which could lead to untold and possibly dramatic consequences”. Although he didn’t say clearly what those policies would be, a senior Saudi official claimed the message was clear: “We cannot live in a situation where Iran has nuclear weapons and we don’t.”
