Context

Russian navy on Tuesday successfully test-fired its new ballistic missile from an advanced nuclear submarine. This was after a series of tests had failed earlier which hindered the progress of the country’s most expensive military project. Defense Ministry spokesperson Colonel Igor Konashenkov said that the Bulava missile was fired from missile submarine Yuri Dolgoruky in the White Sea that separates Russia and Scandinavia. The Bulava is a submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile with highly sophisticated independently maneuverable warheads, capable of evading all potential missile defenses. It has a range of 8,000 km and can carry 6-10 nuclear warheads.
