Russia: BRICS To Prevent Syria From Going Down Libya’s Path

In a recent statement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said the BRICS nations which comprise of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will prevent Syria from following down the path of Libya. He called for the UN Security Council to demand for an end to violence in the country. Lavrov said that BRICS members opposed EU moves to impose sanctions on Syria calling them harmful and ineffective.

The EU, which buys 95 percent of Syrian oil, has imposed an oil embargo against Syria, and has threatened further sanctions, in a move to force President Assad’s regime to give up power.
