PPP and PML-N Part Ways in Punjab Province

1096

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) coalition collapsed in Punjab province. PML-N is now supporting the possibility of mid-term elections. The break up is expected to make PPP led government increasingly vulnerable. Pakistan’s political leaders are increasingly mired in domestic politicking while the nations economic and security situation becomes progressively more precarious. At a time when Afghan war has entered a critical phase, Pakistan-US relations are also under considerable strain due to the Raymond Davis incident. The rift between the intelligence agencies of the two countries appears to be widening. According to media reports, ISI has asked CIA to provide the names of its covert operators in Pakistan.
