Context
The Pentagon admitted suffering a major cyber assault in March in which thousands of secret files were stolen by overseas hackers. Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn confirmed that in this attack and other infringements, hackers managed to get access to “our most sensitive systems”. The acknowledgement came as the Pentagon announced a plan to boost US cyber capabilities and address attacks and threats in cyberspace. The strategy would treat cyber world in a similar way to land, sea and air.
