President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday vowed to take the Palestinian statehood bid to the United Nations after the failure of the diplomatic Quartet to achieve a breakthrough to restore peace negotiations. “We will go to the United Nations and we hope the United States will not use its veto, but that we will go with its agreement,” said the Palestinian leader following his meeting with Greek President Karolos Papoulias. A summit of the Mideast peacemaking group ended without a declaration or statement on Monday in Washington.
