Context
Despite Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s repeated claims that all possible steps are being taken to tackle terrorism, the government hasn’t yet formulated a consolidated database on terrorists. The matter was discussed recently during a meeting of military and civilian law-enforcement agencies and they agreed to work with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to set up such a database on an urgent basis. The meeting approved a suggestion for maintaining data about terrorists under a central authority and the process may be undertaken by the proposed national counter-terrorism authority (Nacta).
