According to media sources, Pakistani military claims it can bring the infamous Haqqani network to the negotiating table. The US, however, wants Pakistan to conduct military operations against Haqqani sanctuaries in the tribal areas. The network has ties to both Al-Qaeda and the Taliban and is blamed for many of the major assaults in Afghanistan, especially the often daring attacks in the capital Kabul. Earlier this week, Washington declared Haqqani commander Mullah Sangeen Zadran as a terrorist, barring US nationals from doing business with him and freezing any of his assets in America.
