The government of Pakistan has given another twelve-month extension to the head of its influential spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani announced the decision to retain Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, ISI’s director general, on Friday in a TV interview, saying it was necessary in view of the prevailing security situation in Pakistan. “We need continuity in the current situation, and the extension was very necessary,” the prime minister said.
