Pakistan has been blamed for alerting Al-Qaeda-linked militants ahead of raids on their hideaways. CIA Director Leon Panetta visited Islamabad over the weekend to present damning proof that Pakistan- or few elements within its armed forces- were still protecting terrorists in its tribal regions. During talks with Pakistan’s military chiefs, he presented a satellite footage showing fighters vacating two bomb-making factories based in Waziristan, just days after America had handed over surveillance imagery of the site. It is believed that Marc Grossman, American envoy to the region, had passed on the footage of the two sites during talks with Gen. Ashfaque Pervez Kiyani and Gen. Shuja Pasha last month. But the fighters managed to flee before security forces moved in, leading to suspicion that the intelligence was leaked.
