Context
Pakistan has initiated peace negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other insurgent groups operating in its tribal areas, in view of an early pull-out of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan, according to informed sources. At the moment, both sides are putting forward their respective conditions and demands to end fighting in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and other parts of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. However, the Pakistani authorities have made it clear that Al-Qaeda’s role in these talks will not be acceptable at any level.
