Nine Pakistani troops were killed and three members of the Frontier Corps paramilitary were wounded on Monday in Peshawar. Militants ambushed security forces in Bara district in Khyber close to the Afghanistan border, and engaged in gun battles which lasted several hours. The insurgents were hiding in the hills and attacked FC troops during a search operation. Fourteen militants were killed in the firing which ensued.

Peshawar’s security situation has become increasingly unstable. The city is believed to be used by Al-Qaeda as its headquarters.
