In a teleconference on Saturday, spokesperson for the Jama’atu ahlis Sunna Wai’da’awati wal Jihad, claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on the UN building that killed at least 16 people. The Nigerian Islamist militants said the attack in the capital Abuja was in retaliation to the killings of its members by security agents. The group warned the United States, which it said was collaborating with the Nigerian government. A warning was also issued to the Kano State government and the Emirate Council to stop persecuting its members or face attacks.

The group also took responsibility for the unsuccessful attacks on Police Headquarters in Maiduguri last week.
