Context

The US-led military coalition in Afghanistan on Thursday admitted that its troops had unintentionally killed an unknown number of children and women this week during a clash with militants in east of the country, adding it is also looking into a separate accusation of civilian deaths in the same area. The two incidents, in Ghazni and Khost provinces, may pose a challenge for President Karzai, who has demanded an end to NATO aerial raids on civilian homes and pledged to take unilateral measures to prevent them if they continue. Karzai’s office didn’t issue any statement regarding either case.
