Mullah Umar has denied the Taliban’s involvement in attacks on hospitals, schools and other public places. In a statement issued over the weekend, the Taliban leader claimed that the attacks were being carried out by foreign powers to defame the Taliban movement and challenged NATO to provide proof of his comrades’ involvement. Surprisingly, he praised the role of education in developing countries. According to Mullah Umar, the only aim of the Taliban is to drive foreign forces out of Afghanistan.
