Mayor of Kandahar Dies in Suicide Bombing

Ghulam Haider Hamidi, mayor of the Kandahar City, died in a suicide bombing at the municipality complex on Wednesday morning, according to Kandahar governor’s spokesperson Zalmai Ayubi. The area was sealed off by Afghan and foreign forces. According to Kandahar’s acting police chief Abdul Razaq, the suicide bomber had hidden explosives in his turban. Abdul Razaq further said that the mayor was due to hold a meeting with tribal elders about a land issue and the bomber was amongst the visitors.
