Libya Halts Military Operations amid Fears of Foreign Action

Libya halted military operations and declared a cease-fire on Friday; just hours after the United Nations Security Council okayed the use of power to protect the besieged people of Libya. Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa told reporters in Tripoli on Friday that in view of its membership in the UN, Libya was obliged to accept the UN Security Council’s resolution that authorizes the use of power to protect civilians and therefore has decided to halt all military operations with immediate effect.
