Lavrov Meets Palestinian Partners And Libyan Opposition

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, has held separate meetings with Palestinian officials and Libyan rebels in Moscow on Monday. Russia has offered to help both Palestinians and Libyans, in an attempt to negotiate peace deals in the respective areas. Lavrov’s meetings with the leaders of Palestinian Hamas and Fatah movements focused on initiatives for the establishment of a new free Palestinian state. Later on Monday, the foreign minister met Libyan opposition leaders to discuss preconditions for a truce and talks between the rebels in Benghazi and the Qaddafi regime in Tripoli. During this meeting, Libyan opposition made it clear it wouldn’t talk about the possibility of Col. Qaddafi staying in power.
