Vice President Joe Biden has said that Taliban per se are not US enemy. Mr. Biden encouraged reconciliation process with Taliban and declared that war in Afghanistan is not against the Taliban. White House defended Biden’s statement and reiterated that the war in Afghanistan was mainly against al-Qaeda, to stabilize Afghanistan, and to root out those who pose a threat to US. The US has removed the names of key Taliban leaders from the black list and is releasing Maulawi Khairkhah, Noorullah Noori and Fazl Ahmad Fazel from Guantanamo.
Nasrullah Stanekzai, a professor in Kabul University, lashed out against the statement and demanded justification for the decade long war that has killed countless Afghans and US soldiers.
