Context
Major General Eyal Eisenberg created panic on Tuesday with his speech at the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University, in which he predicted that there are chances for Israel to be engaged in an all out war. Eisenberg, who has successfully commanded Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, added this war could see the use of weapons of mass destruction. The predictions came at a time when Israel faces deteriorating relations with Turkey and Egypt and the region as a whole is changing dramatically as a result of Arab Spring.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak downplayed the comments stating that he did not believe there to be any such threat to Israel.
