The Iranian authorities threatened to conduct an operation in Pakistan, if the country failed to apprehend the perpetrators of December 15 suicide attack in the Charbahar city of Iran. The attack killed about 40 people. Iran accused the Sunni separatist group Jundallah, which is believed to operate from the safe havens in Pakistan. Subsequently, media sources have reported that Pakistan on December 22 captured the new leader of Jundallah, AbdolRauf Regi, from around the Iran-Pakistan border, and has handed him over to the Iranian authorities. Abdol Rauf Regi had recently succeeded Abdolmalek Regi. Reportedly, Abdolmalek Regi was also apprehended earlier with support from Pakistan.
