Denying India MFN (most favored nation) status represents a non-tariff barrier to trade, acknowledged Pakistani Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmud, during the opening day of Indo-Pak trade talks which are taking place for the first time after the 2008 Mumbai Attacks. The acknowledgement comes amid unconfirmed reports that Islamabad is ready to consider granting MFN status to New Delhi provided that non-tariff barriers to trade by India on Pakistani goods are removed. Indian Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar is currently in Islamabad for trade talks between the South Asian neighbors.
