Context

Germany and Israel are jointly working on a smart missile to be sold with twin-engine Eurofighter. PILUM, an air-to-ground missile, is being developed by Germany’s Diehl and Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and is based on the technology of Rafael’s Spice missile with a reported ability to strike targets while the jet is stationed at a standoff range of 100 kms away and in absence of satellite based targetting systems. Eurofighter is currently being used in Austria, Italy, Spain, Germany, Britain and Saudi Arabia. But it’s still not clear whether the new missile will be provided to all Eurofighter holders or Israel will oppose the supply of the missile to Saudi Arabia.
