Sixteen people including two militants belonging to the Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) were killed in South Waziristan on Wednesday in a US drone attack. Security officials claim 15-18 fighters were killed in the strike. An official in Wana also confirmed a TTP base was hit. “It was a Taliban base. They were using this place as a training camp, to keep weapons and to take shelter.” the official said.

About 25 TTP militants were reported to have been hiding in the region. Six missiles were fired at a compound in Babar Ghar area in Sararogha Tehsil of South Waziristan with attacks coming minutes apart, close to the Afghan province of Paktia.

Sixty-three drone strikes have so far been carried out in Pakistan this year.
