A new wave of political killings and gang war has swept the port Pakistani city of Karachi, killing at least 39 people in two days. According to reports,  5 police commandos were also killed today. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has ordered Interior Minister Rehman Malik to the city and urged “immediate and across the board action against the criminals who were playing with the peace of the metropolis”. Gilani instructed him to not show any “leniency to these elements who are there to ruin the city life,” without announcing any particular policies. Police has so far failed in stemming violence that has been blamed on gangs associated with political parties. Experts worry Karachi is fast sliding in to a civil war like situation.
