The US, the richest country in the world, is plagued by widespread gun violence, severe racial discrimination, and a large segment of its population has become poorer, said a report released by China yesterday on US human rights. The US, beset by all these human rights violations, is not in a position to condemn other nations’ human rights, according to the report by the State Council’s Information Office. Washington has used human rights as a political tool to “defame other governments’ image and seek its own strategic interests”, it added. The report also criticized America’s “notorious record of international human rights violations” saying that the US-led military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq caused massive civilian casualties.
